2022 Tax Year Changes in Forms

IRS Form W2 / 1099 Changes for 2022 Tax Year
Form W-2

There are no significant changes in the Form w-2 form the previous year. The penalty for incorrect or late filing Form W-2 has been increased due to adjustment of inflation.

  • Maximum penalty for forms filed within 30 days after the deadline is changed to $588,500 per year ($206,000 for small businesses).
  • Maximum penalty for forms filed after 30 days and before august 1 is changed to $1,766,000 per year ($588,500 for small businesses).
  • Penalty for forms filed after august 1 has been changed to a minimum penalty of 290/ form to a maximum of $3,532,500 per year (1,177,500 for small businesses)
Form 1099-MISC

IRS has made several changes to Form 1099-MISC. Effective from the 2022 tax year, the check box to report the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) filing requirement has been numbered Box 13. therefore, the old box 13-17 has been renumbered to 14-15.

Form 1099-INT

Form 1099-INT was not substantially changed from the final 2021 version. The only change for the 2022 Form 1099-INT is the title of box 3: Interest on U.S. Savings Bonds and Treas. Obligations have now changed to Interest on U.S. Savings Bonds and Treasury obligations.

Form 1099-DIV

For the tax year 2022, the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) filing requirement check box has now numbered 13. As the result, the older box 13-17 from Form 1099-DIV has been renumbered as 14-18 to accommodate this change.
